Summer Fun

We love to come up with great reasons to color eggs.
 These are Summer Solstice Eggs!

A time of self portraits at the park.  They laid down and I drew around them.  Then they colored in the characters they wanted to portray.
Carson is a soccer star, of course.
(he has big ears so he can listen to his coach! Don't miss his cleats!)

Ruby is a princess with a crown.

Last Day of First Grade - June 12th

I thought they were giving the peace sign but they are holding up two fingers because they are now second graders!

Ruby gave Miss Dronkers a hug the very first day of class -- and held on tight the last day.  Ruby has been quite sad at saying Good Bye to this extra sweet and special teacher.  Ruby gave her teacher a hug everyday as she left class (for the entire year).

Here Carson is with Miss Kellie -- another very dear, sweet teacher.

And one photo-op with friends -- hopefully they will see them all next year in 2nd grade.

PARTY WEEKEND -- Ruby's Zoo Party

June 6th was the twin's 7th b.day.  Hard to believe they are that old.  This was the first year to have separate parties.  It was a party weekend!

Ruby requested a birthday party at the Portland Zoo.  I attempted to bake cupcakes in ice cream cones -- which turned out OK, but were very difficult to transport -- especially with the sticky frosting I dipped them into.

This was before we left to drive to the zoo -- Kristin actually carried them on her lap, which turned out to be a sticky mess for her!  But....... the kids loved them, and we took plenty of wipes to clean the kids up after they enjoyed them.

At the zoo, right in the parking lot we found a shady, grassy area to have lunch and cupcakes.  (thank you God!)    It was 90+ degrees that day, so we had to find shade and keep the kids hydrated and covered with sun screen.  Thankfully, we had some parents who stayed with us the entire time, so we didn't have to keep track of all 15 (give or take a few)  kids ourselves.

Chloe is in Carson's class and they buddied up for the day!  Such a dear little friend, with just as much energy as Carson.

Grandma Carrie enjoyed a giraffe cupcake!

Stacy is one of Kristin's pals from her Nordstrom days, and her daughter, Sloan, is just a few months older than the twins.  She was the first friend who visited the twins after they were born, and seemed so HUGE compared to the preemies.  Now they are just the same size, with matching hair cuts.

Chloe is also a friend to Ruby.  Her mom was kind enough to stay with us the entire day, to help us watch the kids, while the kids watched the animals.

This condor came right up to the window and said "Happy Birthday to Ruby".

We had to take lots of breaks in the shade, as it was a scorcher of a day!

This is the petting zoo, within the zoo.  Ruby is loving on the goats (probably trying to fix their hair!)

Throughout the zoo we found "misters" to cool us down.  The kids got right in there to allow the mist to cool them down.  I did too, for that matter.

Ruby's favorite animal that she wanted to see, and that she wanted on HER CUPCAKE, was the tiger.  Poor thing, was hiding in the shade, since he was wearing a fur coat.  We saw him, but only barely through the trees.

More misters -- where Carson stood long enough to get completely SOAKED!

Then Carson and Zepher squirted each other with their water bottles -- all in good, cool fun!

Grandma Carrie didn't walk around the zoo with us since she is still healing from her broken foot and surgery, but she wasn't going to let that keep her home.  She insisted on being a part of this zoo party.  Such a trooper!

I'll have to say, at first I was really nervous about having so many kids in such a vast area, with so many animals to capture their attentions ----  but I'm happy to say, we didn't lose one child the entire day!  And for that I again say "thank you God!"  Ruby got her zoo party and a good time was had by all.

PARTY WEEKEND CONTINUED - Carson's Indoor Soccer Party

Carson celebrated at Futsal with an indoor soccer party.  I think there must have been 15 or more kids that came, including some siblings.  Thank goodness the facility provided the guys to ref the scrimmage and all we did was watch and provide refreshments.
Here's Carson's soccer field cake I made.  He was thrilled!

This was a photo taken from the upstairs where we adults could view the kids while sipping cool drinks (it was 90+ degrees this weekend!)

At half time the kids (mostly boys, except a few girl-siblings that came for Ruby), came upstairs into the party room where we feverishly tried to feed and hydrate them before they were off and running again.

Things were so wild and crazy that I really didn't get many pictures, and I don't know if anyone else did either.  Carson was in soccer-heaven with this party.

Later that same  night we had a family bar-b-que dinner at Kristin and Casey's house so the kids could open gifts.  Carson requested a blueberry cheesecake for dessert that night that Grandma Carrie brought.  It was the best cheesecake I have ever eaten!

Auntie Kat gave Carson a Sounder's shirt (Seattle's soccer team).

That's my BOY!

While I was fixing dinner Carson found an historical Biblical book and was intently reading it and looking at the pictures.  It was done by a theology professor that Aunt Stephanie knows.  (love his big toe!)

After dinner came the BIG bubble bath --
 "Look grandma!  I'm Santa Claus!"

THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME GROW!

The kids and I did a project this weekend that will be the end-of-year gift for their sweet, wonderful first grade teachers --
as the school year is coming to an end.
One day when I was walking Snowy around the neighborhood, I saw a pot that was hand painted and very attractive. But the thing that caught my eye was the words written on it  --
THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME GROW!
Carson and Ruby have grown so much in first grade that I wanted them to give their teachers something that expressed their gratitude.
I was so pleased with the finished projects and so were they!

When they get the pots planted with their chosen plants, I asked Kristin to take a picture of that.
